AIA Life Designers, a team of six hundred architects, engineers and urban planners have a passion for architecture. For their new branch office in Nantes, a large city in western France, they have renovated the building "La Salle à tracer". Zumtobel supplied the lighting solution for the new office building on the waterfront of the Loire.

"La Salle à tracer" was built in 1922 at the post-industrial site of the Chantiers Dubigeon shipyard on the bank of the Loire. The building is part of the cultural heritage of Nantes and impresses with its 65 metres length and 14 metres width. For the renovation, the original concrete frame was restored and lined with a steel construction. The lighting concept was developed by the lighting designers Philippe Autret and Philippe Laheux. Zumtobel provided the lighting solution.

The large transparent façade allows plenty of daylight to enter the renovated building. This minimizes the use of artificial light. Thus the lighting solution had to be integrated into the architecture and regulated according to daylight.

Zumtobel's SEQUENCE office luminaire convinced with its energy efficiency and design. The luminaire provides a flexible lighting solution that adapts to people's individual needs. Separately controlled LED modules cater to the users' individual needs in a flexible manner. Even direct and indirect lighting can be combined as required and dimmed according to the visual tasks. The illuminance level may thus vary even within a luminaire. A special feature: the changes in luminance levels from one module to the other are pleasantly soft.

When selecting the other luminaires, the lighting designers ensured that they harmonize with the industrial architecture of the building. SLOTLIGHT infinity luminaires by Zumtobel are arranged in continuous lines in the large conference room and in the new building extension, which are visible from the outside through the glass façade.

With SLOTLIGHT infinity, Zumtobel provides architects and designers with a high precision tool ideal for consistent linear design. Nearly endless, up to 50 metres in length, without any butt joints and with uniform illumination even around corners. SLOTLIGHT infinity knows how to take light round the corner, its illuminated L-connectors opening up new scope for creative design. Room geometries can be made clear more effectively, room zones can be redefined, and corner areas can be brought into sharper focus using light.
