The University of California San Francisco UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay is known for its state-of-the-art medical treatment centers for women, children and cancer patients. The brand new construction of the hospital complex delivers a warm and welcoming atmosphere through architecture and lighting design. Zumtobel provided the lighting solution with SUPERSYSTEM and SLOTLIGHT.
With patient care at the forefront of the hospital’s design, creating a comfortable and inviting environment was the paramount task for the architects at Stantec and the lighting designer Matthew Landl at Hiram Banks Lighting Design. Lighting design at the medical center answered a highly functional need while maintaining a sleek and minimalistic design. The chosen luminaires needed to achieve multiple tasks – including general lighting, illuminated signage, and focused spot lighting for art work.
SUPERSYSTEM by Zumtobel met these requirements with an all-in-one package that also delivered an unobtrusive, streamlined aesthetic. With SUPERSYSTEM, an ideal balance of indirect and direct light was achieved, while keeping the ceilings as clean as possible. Working in tandem with SLOTLIGHT, the luminaires provided numerous custom options, with multiple sizes and outputs to meet lighting requirements throughout the entire hospital.
The brand new construction of the UCSF Medical Center achieved LEED Gold Certification for its green design and eco-friendly solutions.
