The CFA Gallery is located in the heart of West Berlin. It is one of the most famous galleries in the city, which shows works by international contemporary artists. Zumtobel has developed a flexible lighting solution for CFA to put the temporary exhibitions in the right light. Until March, the gallery will be exhibiting "HOMMAGE À GEORG BASELITZ".
Founded in 1992 in Berlin-Charlottenburg, CFA has now returned back to the area after years of its existence at the Kupfergraben. In a house from the Gründerzeit from 1900, Bruno Brunnet and Nicole Hackert present contemporary art by artists like Cecily Brown, Raymond Pettibon, Dana Schutz, Sarah Lucas and Georg Baselitz.
In order to adapt the lighting according to the changing exhibitions, CFA had a number of requirements for the exhibition light: diffuse basic lighting and brilliant accent lighting with high colour rendering, flexibility in illuminating the exhibitions as well as easy handling of the lighting management system.
For these purposes, Zumtobel developed a special lighting solution that meets the requirements of flexible lighting combined with high quality light perfectly. Depending on the type of exhibition and artworks, the gallery can choose between brilliant accent lighting by using VIVO or diffuse lighting by using TECTON.
The VIVO LED spotlights are characterised by excellent colour rendering and extremely uniform light distribution. There is an appropriate light colour and colour temperature as well as a matching illuminance level for every lighting task. The TECTON continuous-row LED lighting system appears as a consistent continuous-row system, without any visual interruption or different reflectors, even where various different distribution characteristics are placed next to each other. In combination with the lighting management system LITECOM from Zumtobel Group Services (ZGS), the light in the gallery can be adapted for each exhibition.
At the moment CFA is paying homage to the artist Georg Baselitz by showcasing works to the occasion of his 80th birthday. The German painter, sculptor and graphic artist constantly reinvents himself, mirrored by his continuous significance in the contemporary art scene. The "HOMMAGE À GEORG BASELITZ" shows excellent examples of the artist's works from 1963 until today.
