Following the success of last year’s first Pride Glitterball, BDP’s London studio has hosted a second event to celebrate diversity in design during Pride season. Sponsored by Zumtobel, the event was organised by BDP’s LGBT+ group in association with RIBA’s Architecture LGBT+ and the International Association of Lighting Designers. A huge success, the evening brought together some of the most influential lighting designers, architects, choreographers and artists celebrating the inspiration that light brings to design, architecture, art, fashion and dance.
Colin Ball lighting director at BDP said: “Glitterball has provided a catalyst to bring the architecture, design, engineering, landscape and lighting communities together within London over a shared aim to make each and every one of us valued and recognised for our contribution. We’re delighted that it is gaining the attention of other associations across Europe and America as well as within the London Mayor’s office. The immediate support from Zumtobel has again enabled us to make the evening something that everyone was very pleased to be a part of.”
April Dorrian from Zumtobel described the event as ‘a glittering night of light’ and Mark Ingram commented “The night was really inspiring, I particularly enjoyed seeing the work of the highly creative artists each exploring their own relationship with light in a series of short films”. Both agreed, the food was delicious, the cocktails divine and the DJ played a fantastic set.
The President of The IALD, David Ghatan also came over from America especially to support this event.
