New lighting solution by Zumtobel for Sagmeister store

Next-level LED - thanks to contracting, a comprehensive no-hassle package

The Sagmeister fashion house in Bregenz is committed to offering high fashion and excellent service, and not only through its first-class collection and expert advice - even the store design makes customers feel good and shopping a pleasure. That's why Sagmeister has recently updated its men's boutique DER MANN with a state-of-the-art LED lighting concept by Zumtobel. Thanks to light contracting, the update was very simple and straightforward.

In Sagmeister's 600-square-metre Bregenz store, fashion-conscious customers can expect a real who's who of the international fashion scene: Brunello Cucinelli, Etro, Valentino, Ermenegildo Zegna and other top designers. Sophisticated, top-quality fashion presented in a relaxed setting has enabled Sagmeister to make a name for itself far beyond Vorarlberg. The family-owned company, founded in 1844, has now updated its store with an innovative lighting concept, relying on Zumtobel's expertise in the process. Sagmeister has already worked with Zumtobel in the past and decided to go with light contracting for this project. illwerke vkw and Zumtobel have come together to offer the customer a comprehensive service package that includes project design, implementation, commissioning and management, as well as long-term maintenance and servicing of the lighting system, for which the customer pays a monthly amount to illwerke vkw across the 6-year duration of the contract. This allows Sagmeister to leave the lighting to the experts and to concentrate fully on its core business. "This contracting model is a comprehensive no-hassle package", says Managing Director Clemens Sagmeister. "Zumtobel will be our contact for the entire term of the contract and a reliable partner who will take care of all the necessary arrangements and building services, allowing us to focus our attention entirely on our customers."

The new lighting concept fulfilled two objectives for Sagmeister: optimum, authentic colour rendering of the merchandise and pleasant, discreet lighting that invites customers to linger and creates an atmosphere of well-being in the store.
The new store lighting is provided by INTRO luminaires and VIVO spotlights. Thanks to a multi-functional light head, both luminaire series can be rotated 360 degrees and swivelled 90 degrees, and offer brilliant accent lighting with optimum glare control.

The revamped lighting concept fulfilled two objectives for the fashion house: excellent presentation of the merchandise thanks to optimal, authentic colour rendering and increased customer and employee well-being thanks to pleasant, discreet lighting that invites customers to linger and creates an atmosphere of well-being in the store.

The new lighting in the store is provided by recessed INTRO luminaires and VIVO spotlights on track systems. Thanks to a multi-functional light head, both luminaire series can be rotated 360 degrees and swivelled 90 degrees, and offer brilliant accent lighting with optimum glare control. High colour rendering (RA > 90) across the colour spectrum produces a vibrant colour effect in which white and coloured clothing is displayed to its full advantage. The warm-white colour temperature of 3000 Kelvin creates a pleasant atmosphere, something that was particularly important in the rear area of the store, where suits are individually tailored, because of the longer time customers spend there. PANOS infinity downlights help further accentuate the cosy atmosphere created by the store décor.

Installing the lighting in just three weeks, while the store was still open to customers, was particularly challenging. "That's why most of the installation work was carried out during off-peak hours", explains Zumtobel's project manager for turnkey and financing services. "This meant that the works caused minimal disruption and never prevented customers from shopping."

In addition to the excellent lighting effect, the cost-effectiveness of the new lighting solution was an important decision criterion for the customer. By switching to LEDs, the electrical connected load has been reduced by 6 kW and annual power consumption from 53000 kilowatt hours to 26000 kilowatt hours. "Overall, the new lighting solution saves Sagmeister 51 percent on CO2 emissions and 51 percent on energy costs every year compared with the old lighting system."
